Jordanian King Abdullah Meets with Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing

On June 19, 2005, Jordanian King Abdullah met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing at his Palace. Both sides held cordial and friendly talks on further strengthening and expanding bilateral relations and cooperation and current regional and international issues.

King Abdullah said during the meeting that Jordan-China relationship has been developing smoothly all the time. The Jordanian government appreciates China for the long-term political support and economic assistance to Jordan. He said that China plays an active and constructive role in international and the Middle East issues. Jordan attaches strategic importance to developing the long-term friendly relations with China and is willing to constantly deepen the cooperation between the two countries in all fields.

Li expressed congratulations on Jordan's achievements in promoting social stability, economic development and people livelihood and appreciated Jordan for its active efforts in maintaining peace in the Middle East. He said that China-Jordan relations have been developing well with the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries at all levels and in all fields getting increasingly strengthened. The Chinese side thanks the Jordanian side for adhering to the one-China policy. He also said that China and Jordan are good friends and partners. He believed that with concerted efforts by both sides, the friendly cooperation between the two countries will be further consolidated and advanced, which will benefit the peace, stability and development of the region and the world at large.

Both sides also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and the reform of the United Nations (UN).

Li and his delegation concluded the 3-day official visit to Jordan that afternoon. Jordan is the first leg of Li Zhaoxing's 5-nation tour to the Middle East. He will also visit Israel, Palestine, Syria and Lebanon.
