Foreign Journalists Pay a Site Visit to Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant for Report

On June 10, 2005, the International Press Center (IPC) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a report trip for foreign journalists in Beijing to Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant. Deputy Director-General of the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Wang Donghua headed the delegation.

Party Secretary of the Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant Hu Haiyun and related officers briefed the journalists on the construction and operation of the nuclear power plant as well its extension plan, and took questions from the journalists.

Later, the journalists were divided into three groups to inspect the first, second and third phase of the nuclear power plant. With the thoughtful arrangement of relevant departments of the base, the journalists entered into the core area of the nuclear power plant, the central control center and the tribune-driven electricity generation room, to take pictures.

The trip attracted 51 journalists from 17 foreign news agencies of 10 countries in China including Associate Press, Bloomberg LP, Reuters, AFP, Kyodo News, CNN, German Public Radio ARD, German ZDF TV, TVE -Television of Spain, NHK, Trouw of the Netherlands, the Star of Malaysia and Newsweek.

Prior to this trip, the IPC organized a report trip for some foreign journalists to the Youngor Group and the Geely Automobile Company, two private businesses in Ningbo, Zhejiang and to the 7th Zhejiang Investment and Trade Fair from June 7 to 9.

The mayors of Hangzhou, Ningbo, Shaoxing, Jiaxing, Huzhou and Zhoushan jointly met with the journalists to brief them on the economic development and investment prospect of the 6 cities.

The journalists also visited the port of Ningbo, Tengtou Village as well as the construction site of the Hangzhou Bay Trans-Oceanic Bridge, the longest trans-oceanic bridge in the world up to date.

In addition, the journalists also paid a visit to Tianyige Museum, the private library with the longest history in China.
